The Renaissance Festival, a popular American tradition, traces its roots back to the 1960s. The first such festival was held in Los Angeles in 1963 as a fundraiser for a radio station. It was a small-scale event but quickly gained popularity.

Inspired by the success of this initial festival, others began to pop up across the country. By the 1970s and 1980s, Renaissance festivals had become a staple of the American cultural calendar.
